Instagram has historically been referenced as a social media platform, but I think its moving beyond that and closer to becoming a new web ecosystem. Think about how many platforms they are working to replace:

Instagram Shopping - Add To Cart
Instagram Stories - Snapchat
IGTV - Youtube
Instagram Live - Live Stream
Static Posts - Tumblr
Instagram Direct Message - Text Message
Instagram Email - Email
Instagram Feed - Website Home Page
Story Highlights - Blog
Saves - Pinterest

We need to understand Instagram not as a social platform, but as a new iteration of the web.

One metric we have been keeping a close eye on in this expanding ecosystem is Saves. Saves are like a super Like, the user saying not only do I like this but I want to be sure I can find it easily in the future.

On average we're seeing an Influencer should be getting around .01% of their audience saving their posts. Or 1 save per 1,000 followers, so 100,000 followers, should be getting 100 saves per post.

Brands: in your next campaign, make sure you're including within the contract that influencers also send through the number of times that static post was Saved, and include that metric within your reporting. Influencers, consider doing this even if it isn’t in the contract. With purchasing followers, and purchasing engagement becoming increasingly easy, Saves has become an incredibly powerful way to see how engaged an influencer’s audience actually is.
